Printed matter | Launched 11.11.21 | Commissioned by PrintRoom (NL)
In late 2020, Kees, Hannah Dawn and Karolina of Notes on Hapticity were invited to delve into PrintRoom’s archive of artist(ic) and DIY publications. This archive, spanning several thousand documents, recollects PrintRoom’s network of international collaborators and thematic developments in the wider field of independent publishing. We were invited to explore how we encounter and relate to themes such as care, isolation, self-reliance, and community in the archive; further, we reflected on how we relate these materials to our own memories and internal collage of references. Predicated on these personal associations, each of us made a selection from the archive and responded to them through our respective registers, encompassing lyrical, essayistic and epistolary tonalities.

Launched in late 2021, the Quarantine in the Archive mail-out series consists of three individual prints, each of which contains one of our texts and a ‘glimpse’ from the archive – a small-scale reproduction of a book cover or page extract.

Quarantine in the Archive forms part of PrintRoom’s ongoing Holiday in the Archive series. The series explores various institutional and community-initiated archives that resonate with the principles of PrintRoom’s own archive, focusing on printed matter as an artistic medium.
